The Crime Branch of Jammu and Kashmir Police arrested Rohit Taroch on Friday in connection with a multi-crore loan scam involving J&K Bank. Taroch, a former employee of the BC Road branch in Jammu, was taken into custody immediately after his bail application was denied by the court.

The loan scam, which amounted to a staggering Rs 1.44 crore, was uncovered after a written complaint was lodged by the then branch manager of the bank to the Crime Branch. The complaint alleged that between 2018 and 2019, 14 borrowers had approached the bank for personal consumption loans (PCL) under the Sahulat and Saral schemes for government employees.

The borrowers claimed to be employees of various military units in Jammu, including the military farmhouse in Jammu, administrative commandant station headquarters in Satwari, and station headquarters in Domana. They submitted fraudulent salary certificates and other fake documents to the bank. Based on these bogus documents, and guarantees provided by Rohit Taroch, the bank sanctioned and disbursed the loans.

However, after further investigation, it was revealed that the borrowers were not employed by the claimed military units, and the documents they submitted were completely fake. This fraudulent activity caused a loss of Rs 1.44 crore to the bank.

Benam Tosh, Senior Superintendent of Police (Crime), Jammu, confirmed that Rohit Taroch had been arrested following the court’s denial of his bail plea. The investigation into the scam is ongoing, and further legal action is expected as the case develops.
