police have arrested two men accused of supplying illegal weapons used in the murder of property dealer Rohit Shaukeen on Southern Peripheral Road (SPR) last year. A scooter allegedly used during the crime was also recovered from their possession, police said on Thursday.
The accused were arrested from the bus stand in Gangana village of Sonipat district and were identified as Amit alias Meeta (25) and Vashu (23), both residents of the same village.
According to police, the two men supplied illegal firearms to the shooters involved in the killing on the instructions of Sunil alias Sardhania. During interrogation, the accused disclosed that they had provided two illegal pistols to Vinod alias Pehalwan and Shakti, who allegedly shot Rohit Shaukeen dead.
Police said Amit alias Meeta has two criminal cases registered against him in Sonipat district for murder and assault. Vashu is facing one case of attempted murder in Jind district and another assault case in Sonipat district.
“We are questioning the accused to gather further details about the weapons network and other associates,” a spokesperson for Gurugram Police said.
Rohit Shaukeen (39), a property dealer and resident of Kamruddin Nagar in Nihal Vihar, Delhi, was shot dead on August 4 last year on SPR Road in Gurugram. An FIR was registered at Kherki Daula police station following the incident.
A senior police officer said that with the latest arrests, 12 accused have been apprehended so far in the case. Those previously arrested include Shubham, Sudip, Gautam, Shakti, Kamal, Kuldeep, Vinod, Padam, Sunil alias Sardhania, and Ashish. Further investigation into the case is ongoing.
