East Delhi police have arrested two men, Rohit (26) and Mukul (24), for allegedly snatching a handbag from an NRI senior citizen in Pandav Nagar. The incident occurred on October 28 near Maitri Apartment, where the woman, recently returned from the UK, was targeted by the duo on a motorcycle.
Her handbag contained gold jewelry, Rs 50,000 cash, 300 British pounds, important documents, and debit and credit cards.
Authorities examined over 150 CCTV cameras along a 15-km stretch to trace the suspects’ movements. According to Additional DCP (East) Vineet Kumar, police acted on a tip-off and set up a trap, capturing the two men along with the motorcycle used in the crime.
During interrogation, the accused confessed to targeting women and elderly individuals in residential areas. Police confirmed that stolen valuables were sold for cash to support their lavish lifestyle. Recovered items include a gold necklace, 135 British pounds, and a mobile phone.
