In a major development, Patna Police arrested two key accused in connection with the Rs40 lakh jewellery heist from a shop on Saguna-Khagaul Road in Danapur. The arrests include the mastermind, Rohit Kumar, and his associate Akash Kumar, also known as Suraj Kumar, both apprehended from Bhojpur district.
The daring robbery took place on January 31, when six armed robbers stormed a jewellery store at Saguna More and looted gold and diamond ornaments worth Rs40 lakh along with Rs27,000 in cash.
Earlier, police arrested Suraj’s sisters—Aarti Kumari and Sarita Devi—from Ara on February 7, while they were trying to sell the stolen jewellery. A total of 31 pieces of stolen jewellery and a motorcycle used in the crime were recovered from their home.
Danapur ASP Bhanu Pratap Singh confirmed the arrests and stated that the Special Investigation Team (SIT) is actively working to apprehend the remaining culprits and recover more stolen property. The police are also investigating the possible involvement of other family members, as some of the stolen ornaments were found hidden in the accused’s residence.
The arrested accused have been forwarded to judicial custody, and further arrests are expected soon, based on CCTV footage and ongoing leads.
