The Anti-Dacoity Squad has arrested Rohit Vilas Andhare (25), a former X-ray technician, for a high-profile house burglary in Pune’s Hadapsar area, leading to the recovery of stolen property worth over Rs43.5 lakh.
Originally from Dharashiv district and currently residing in Thite Vasti, Kharadi, Andhare was involved in a theft reported between 9 PM on May 17 and 1 PM on May 18, according to the FIR filed under Sections 331(3)(4) and 305(A) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) at Hadapsar Police Station.
The investigation began when police spotted a suspicious Yamaha R15 motorcycle without a license plate in CCTV footage linked to the crime scene. Tracking the bike led the police through Solapur, Barshi, Dharashiv, Bhum, and Paranda, eventually pinpointing the suspect’s location.
After 23 days of combing through 170 CCTV camera feeds and leveraging technical surveillance and informants, Andhare was arrested on June 11 near Godbole Vasti in Manjri.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police Nikhil Pingale, Andhare had used the R15 motorcycle — previously owned by a family that tragically died by suicide — during the heist at a flat in Magarpatta City.
Upon his arrest, police recovered:
48 tolas of gold and diamond jewellery
500 grams of silver ornaments
Yamaha R15 motorcycle
The total value of the recovered items is approximately Rs43.55 lakh.
Police say this is Andhare’s first known offense, though further investigations are ongoing to uncover any possible accomplices or earlier crimes.
