ELLICOTT CITY, MD — A Howard County man was arrested after allegedly soliciting sex from someone he believed to be a minor, who was actually an undercover law enforcement officer.

Rohit Agarwal, 48, of Ellicott City, was charged with one count of sexual solicitation of a minor following a sting operation conducted by the Maryland State Police. Investigators say Agarwal used an online app to communicate with the undercover officer, who was posing as a child.

On Tuesday, August 19, Agarwal was arrested without incident in the parking lot of a fast-food restaurant in Anne Arundel County, where he had arranged to meet the individual. The arrest was made with support from the Fort Meade Army Criminal Investigation Office.

Agarwal was transported to the District Court of Anne Arundel County, where he is awaiting a hearing before a court commissioner.

Authorities say the investigation remains active.
