The Pelhar police have successfully arrested two individuals who had been absconding for over a year after allegedly kidnapping and murdering Sudhir Kunjbihari Singh, a 27-year-old resident of Kandivali. The crime took place on the night of January 1, 2024, in Nalasopara East’s Gaonrai Pada area.
The absconding suspects, identified as Rohan Vishwanath Singh and Akhilesh Bholenath Singh, were found to be working as laborers in various states under assumed identities. The police arrested them after receiving an intelligence tip-off that one of the suspects, Rohan, had returned to Mumbai in search of work.
Assistant Police Inspector Arjun Pawar, who led the investigation, had been tracking the suspects for the past year, relying on a combination of mobile phone traces and informants. The breakthrough came when an informer alerted the police that Rohan was spotted in Virar, looking for employment. Acting swiftly, the police set a trap in Bhatpara and arrested Rohan. He later provided information that led to the arrest of Akhilesh Singh in Sonpur village, Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh.
During interrogation, the accused revealed that they had been working in Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, and Uttar Pradesh, using fake identities. After a year on the run, they believed the investigation had gone cold, prompting Rohan’s return to Virar, which ultimately led to his capture.
Both suspects were produced in court on Sunday and have been remanded in police custody for seven days as the investigation continues.
