Two persons, Rohan Singh (43) and Reema Jaiswal (32), have been arrested for allegedly duping hundreds of people by posing as property owners and offering houses on rent or lease, police said on Thursday.
The case came to light in May 2023 when Sukhbir Singh of Burari lodged a complaint, claiming he had leased a flat at Lal Doora on a security deposit of Rs4 lakh from Rohan Singh. A security agreement was executed, and Sukhbir paid Rs3.88 lakh via banking channels.
He later discovered that the property did not belong to Rohan Singh, prompting him to approach the police. Investigations revealed that around 100 other victims had lodged similar complaints against the same accused.
Police said that when victims approached the accused for refunds, they were threatened, enabling the accused to cheat people to the tune of Rs3 crore.
Rohan Singh and Reema Jaiswal have now been taken into custody, and further investigation is ongoing.
