Rogers County Deputy Justin Book Arrested for DUI in Patrol Car

Deputy Book faces charges after hitting street sign near home

by Sophia Bennett

ROGERS COUNTY, Okla. — Deputy Justin Book of Rogers County was arrested on July 21 for driving under the influence (DUI) while operating his patrol vehicle near his residence.

The Claremore Police Department responded to a complaint involving a damaged street sign. Upon arrival, officers found clear evidence that a vehicle had struck the sign and later contacted Deputy Book at his home.

During the investigation, Book admitted to taking Ambien earlier that morning, and his wife confirmed he had consumed an alcoholic beverage as well. Following these revelations, officers arrested Book on charges of DUI and failure to stop at a stop sign.

Rogers County Sheriff Scott Walton expressed sympathy for Book, describing him as a valued employee and military veteran. “This shows signs of a man battling alcoholism or other personal demons,” Walton said. He also emphasized transparency in the department when dealing with such incidents.

Deputy Book has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of an internal investigation.

FOX23 will provide further updates as more details become available.
