HARRISBURG, PA — A Dauphin County man has been sentenced to 3 to 8 years in state prison after pleading guilty to multiple charges related to a 2013 traffic stop, according to Dauphin County Crime Stoppers.
Rodney Sanders was pulled over by a Susquehanna Township Police officer on November 17, 2013, after his vehicle was observed weaving within its lane. At the time, Sanders was driving under a suspended license and had prior felony convictions, including for drug trafficking and firearm possession in 2000.
During the stop, officers spotted a Ruger CP100 .357 Magnum in plain view on the back seat. The weapon had been reported stolen out of Derry Township. Police also found marijuana in the vehicle.
Further investigation revealed Sanders had two other prior drug trafficking convictions—one in 2003 from Swatara Township and another in 2007 from New Jersey—making it illegal for him to possess a firearm.
On Monday, Sanders pled guilty before Dauphin County President Judge Richard A. Lewis to the following charges:
Person not to possess a firearm
Receiving stolen property
Carrying a firearm without a license
Possession of a small amount of marijuana
Driving under the influence
