Rodney Clifton & Joshua Frank Arrested for Tulsa Counterfeit Scheme

Men sold fake projectors, defrauding victims of thousands

by Sophia Bennett

TULSA COUNTY, Okla. – Two men, Rodney Clifton and Joshua Frank, were arrested after allegedly defrauding victims out of thousands of dollars by selling counterfeit screen projectors. According to court documents, the pair approached people at various businesses across Tulsa County and offered to sell high-end projectors at a discounted price, claiming various reasons for the low cost.

The victims were shown a website that listed the projectors at prices as high as $10,000, only to be offered deals between $800 and $2,500. However, after purchasing the items, the victims discovered they had been scammed with counterfeit products.

In February 2024, investigators learned that Clifton had been arrested in Missouri for a similar crime. During questioning, Clifton reportedly told authorities that he obtained the projectors from warehouses in Texas, purchasing them for no more than $400 each, and then reselling them at inflated prices.

Text messages between Clifton and Frank revealed discussions about the scams and strategies for finding victims, according to the affidavit.

Clifton was arrested and booked into Tulsa County Jail on Thursday but later bonded out. Frank was also arrested and has since bonded out. Both men face charges of conspiracy to commit a felony and violations of the Consumer Protection Act.
