ATLANTA, Ga. — Hip-hop star Rod Wave was arrested in Atlanta on drug and weapon charges Friday — the same day he received his first Grammy nomination.
According to jail records, the rapper, whose real name is Rodarius Green, was taken into custody by the Atlanta Police Department and charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance, reckless driving, and possession of a firearm or knife during the commission of a felony.
Green, 27, was released on Saturday after posting an $8,000 bond, attorney Drew Findling confirmed.
His legal team — Findling, Marissa Goldberg, and Zack Findling — issued a statement claiming Green was “unjustly profiled” by an officer from the department’s Crime Suppression Unit, calling the arrest “quota-driven” and a violation of his rights.
Rod Wave has faced prior legal troubles in Georgia, including arrests in May and June on more than a dozen charges such as aggravated assault and battery, which his attorneys have previously denied.
The Florida-born artist is known for blending melodic rap and soulful vocals in hits like “Heart on Ice” and “Tombstone.” His recent single “Sinners” — featured in the film of the same name — earned him a Grammy nomination for Best Song Written for Visual Media.
Rod Wave recently scored his third No. 1 album with “Nostalgia” and plans to begin his Redemption Experience Tour next month.
