CANTON, Ill. – A 38-year-old man has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder in connection with the death of a 70-year-old Canton resident earlier this week.

Canton police identified the suspect as Rocky Garwood, of Canton. In addition to the murder charge, Garwood faces a charge of home invasion. He is currently being held at the Fulton County Jail, awaiting a preliminary court hearing.

Authorities discovered the body of David Kuntz, 70, inside a home on Baxter Court shortly before 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday. Following an autopsy conducted Friday, Fulton County Coroner Austin Rhodes confirmed the death was a homicide, though the specific cause of death has not yet been released due to the ongoing investigation.

Police are asking for the public’s help in locating video surveillance footage from the night of September 2 through the early hours of September 3, particularly of a man riding a bicycle during that time.

The case remains under active investigation by the Canton Police Department, Fulton County Sheriff’s Office, Illinois State Police, and the Fulton County Coroner’s Office.
