ABERDEEN, N.C. — A Rockingham man is facing felony drug and embezzlement charges after police found him slumped over inside a vehicle at a McDonald’s restaurant on Highway 1 in Aberdeen.
According to the Aberdeen Police Department, the incident occurred on February 14, 2025, when officers were called to the fast-food restaurant’s parking lot for a welfare check.
“Upon arrival, officers identified the male as Christopher Goodwin, age 52,” police said in a statement to the Sandhills Sentinel. “After awakening him inside his vehicle, it was determined that Goodwin had an outstanding warrant out of Richmond County for embezzlement.”
While taking Goodwin into custody, officers searched him and discovered a bottle containing four small bags of a white powder-like substance, suspected to be narcotics, in his pocket.
The substance was sent to the North Carolina State Crime Lab for analysis. On April 30, 2025, the lab confirmed the presence of fentanyl, a Schedule II controlled substance, prompting police to obtain additional warrants for felony drug possession.
Efforts to locate Goodwin in Aberdeen were unsuccessful, but later the same day, Richmond County deputies located and arrested him.
Goodwin was taken before a magistrate in Richmond County and denied bond due to post-release conditions related to his previous charges.
He is currently being held in custody pending further court proceedings.
