Jamestown Man Gets 25 Years for Fentanyl Distribution Leading to Death

by Sophia Bennett

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Rocco A. Beardsley, 39, of Jamestown, N.Y., has been sentenced to 25 years in federal prison for his involvement in a narcotics conspiracy that included the distribution of fentanyl, methamphetamine, and other controlled substances. The sentencing was announced by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of New York on February 28, 2025.

Between late 2018 and March 2020, Beardsley conspired with seven other individuals to distribute drugs in the Jamestown area. One of the most tragic events tied to this operation occurred on April 9, 2019, when Beardsley sold acetyl fentanyl and fentanyl to a person identified as J.A., resulting in the individual’s fatal overdose.

Upon learning of J.A.’s death, Beardsley attempted to cover up his involvement by directing others to destroy evidence from the scene, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office. Beardsley continued to buy and sell fentanyl and methamphetamine, using social media platforms to facilitate the transactions.

Beardsley and his co-conspirators used properties on Sampson Street and Cowden Place in Jamestown for their drug trafficking activities. Law enforcement conducted several controlled purchases from Beardsley during the investigation, and executed search warrants at residences linked to the operation. The search resulted in the seizure of approximately 100 grams of methamphetamine, 66 grams of fentanyl, 28 grams of cocaine, four grams of crack cocaine, a 12-gauge shotgun, and other drug-related items.

Additionally, Beardsley and his co-conspirators engaged in multiple money transfers to further their drug trafficking conspiracy. The case has led to the conviction of seven defendants involved in the operation.

This sentence marks a significant victory in the fight against fentanyl distribution and its deadly consequences.
