NOBLE COUNTY, Ind. (WPTA) – Robin Laymon, 46, the treasurer of the Noble County Community Fair Corporation, has been charged with embezzling more than $360,000, which she allegedly spent on cocaine, pills, and paying personal bills.
Laymon faces a single theft charge, which carries a potential prison sentence of up to six years. The Noble County Sheriff’s Department began investigating after Troy Rucker, president of the fair board, reported the missing funds. Rucker received a voicemail from Laymon in which she allegedly confessed to taking the money.
“I f***** up…I borrowed some money from the fair board and I don’t have it all paid back yet,” Laymon allegedly stated in the voicemail. “If you need to call the cops, I get it. I’m prepared.”
Investigators say Laymon used payment services and wrote herself checks to steal funds, taking amounts ranging from $500 to $60,000. At the time of her arrest, authorities were still working to confirm the full total, but it was estimated at around $367,000.
During questioning, Laymon allegedly admitted to using the stolen funds for drugs, including cocaine and pills, as well as to pay for food and personal bills between October and the previous week.
