ENCINO, Calif. — Authorities believe Robin Kaye, longtime “American Idol” music supervisor, and her husband, rock musician Tom DeLuca, were fatally shot after walking in on a burglary at their $4.5 million home. The LAPD says the couple may have been killed on July 10, days before their bodies were discovered on Monday, July 14.
According to police, the suspect entered through an unlocked door of the heavily secured property, which is outfitted with cameras and surrounded by a large wall. A confrontation ensued when the couple returned home, resulting in both victims being shot multiple times in different rooms of the house.
Authorities found the couple’s bodies after responding to a welfare check around 2:30 p.m. on Monday in the 4700 block of White Oak Avenue. Both Kaye and DeLuca, aged 70, were pronounced dead at the scene.
The suspect, Raymond Boodarian, 22, also of Encino, was arrested without incident by LAPD and FBI officers on Tuesday, July 15. The attack appears to have been random, but investigators are looking into any potential prior connection between Boodarian and the victims.
Kaye, known as a cornerstone of the “American Idol” team, was mourned by colleagues and fans. A show spokesperson said they were “devastated” by the news of her tragic death alongside her husband.
