GRAYSON COUNTY, KY — March 2026

Two Edmonson County men are in custody following an alleged copper wire theft in Grayson County.

The Grayson County Sheriff’s Office received a report Thursday morning of a theft in progress on Bowling Green Road (Highway 185) near Rabbit Flat Road. A witness told police they saw an SUV with two men dragging several feet of large wire behind the vehicle. The wire became caught on a concrete tile and came loose.

The witness followed the SUV, spoke with the men, and called 911, providing the vehicle’s license plate number.

Investigators identified 53-year-old Robert G. Saltsman, of Bee Spring, as the SUV owner. A Grayson County Deputy Chief contacted the Edmonson County Sheriff’s Office and Kentucky State Police (KSP) to check Saltsman’s residence on Oklahoma Road.

A KSP trooper encountered the SUV near the home and observed pieces of large wire inside. Police arrested Saltsman and his passenger, 53-year-old Ezra B. Deering, also of Bee Spring.

Charges:

Ezra B. Deering: unlawful taking ($10,000–$1M) and first-degree criminal mischief

Robert G. Saltsman: theft by unlawful taking ($10,000–$1M)

Both men were lodged at the Grayson County Detention Center.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
