Louisville Police Arrest Two Men Attempting to Steal Copper Wire from Interstate

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Two men were arrested on Saturday, September __, for attempting to steal copper wire from interstate infrastructure near the junction of I-65 and I-265.

Officers apprehended 54-year-old Robert Kelly and 42-year-old Daniel Bentley after responding to a report about stolen Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) copper wire being moved from a storage location. Police tracked the wire using a hidden tracking device to the men’s location.

Upon arrival, officers found Bentley and Kelly in the process of stripping the copper wire. Both admitted to stealing the wire with the intent to sell it as scrap.

The men face multiple charges, including criminal mischief and trespass on key infrastructure. Additionally, Robert Kelly was charged with possession of methamphetamine.

The Louisville Metro Police Department commended the officers involved for their swift and effective action in preventing this theft.
