NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) — A man has been arrested following an attempted kidnapping and car theft Monday morning in North Charleston, according to the North Charleston Police Department.

The incident began around 9:43 a.m. on June 2 near Remount Road, when officers responded to a report of a stolen vehicle. Upon arrival, they met with the victim, who provided a chilling account.

The woman said she was loading purchased items into her vehicle when the suspect, later identified as Robert Grandison, approached, pushed her into the car, and told her to “stay in the car” while grabbing her arm.

The victim managed to escape and ran into a nearby Walgreens, where she called for help.

Grandison fled the scene in her vehicle, leading police on a pursuit that ended when he crashed into a cement barrier. He was transported to a hospital for treatment following the crash, police spokesperson Harve Jacobs confirmed.

Grandison is now in custody, and further charges are expected as the investigation continues.
