Nairobi, Kenya — A man linked to several high-profile luxury car fraud cases was arrested immediately after leaving the Kibera Law Courts on Thursday.
Robert Bundi Mugaa, a suspect with a growing history in vehicle scams, was apprehended by detectives and escorted to Kilimani Police Station for questioning. His arrest is tied to the alleged fraudulent sale of a Mercedes-Benz E350 worth KSh 4.1 million to a well-known Nairobi dealership, Valley Road Motors.
Investigators claim Mugaa posed as a middleman acting on behalf of the vehicle’s rightful owner. However, inconsistencies in the vehicle’s documentation raised suspicions, leading to the dealership returning the car and reporting the matter.
Valley Road Motors’ owner, Francis Mundia Ng’ang’a, denied any involvement, saying his team followed due diligence and was misled by seemingly legitimate papers. He emphasized the dealership took immediate action upon discovering discrepancies.
Mugaa has previously been linked to other luxury vehicle fraud cases, including the disappearance of a KSh 33 million Range Rover, and has developed a reputation for operating in legal grey areas — vanishing once transactions are completed and disputes arise.
Authorities are now investigating whether this case is part of a wider luxury car fraud syndicate operating in Nairobi.
