The Pune Rural Police have arrested Rizwan Shaikh (42), the alleged kingpin of an inter-state gang of burglars involved in stealing cash and gold jewellery worth Rs 68 lakh from a grocery store owner’s house in Khed’s Rajgurunagar on 3 January 2026.

Shaikh, originally from Bijnor, Uttar Pradesh, and currently residing in New Delhi, was taken into custody after tracing CCTV footage along the Pune-Nashik highway. Police recovered gold and silver jewellery, along with a car, valued at Rs 48 lakh from him.

According to Superintendent of Police (Pune Rural) Sandeep Singh Gill, the gang traveled from Uttar Pradesh to Maharashtra in a car to commit burglaries and then returned to their home state. On the night of the crime, the suspects broke into a 59-year-old grocer’s house while the family was away in Akkalkot, Solapur district, stealing cash and jewellery totaling Rs 68 lakh.

“The teams checked CCTV footage on a 120 km stretch of Pune-Nashik highway and obtained clear photographs of the suspects,” SP Gill said. Shaikh was intercepted while traveling from Gujarat to Mumbai. Police confirmed that cases are registered against him in Pune, Kolhapur, Delhi, and Gujarat.

A search is ongoing for Shaikh’s accomplices, and local crime branch teams continue to investigate the gang’s operations.
