Continuing its aggressive drive against the drug menace, Anantnag Police scored a significant success by arresting a drug peddler and seizing a substantial consignment of narcotics.
According to an official spokesperson, Police Station Bijbehara received credible input from reliable sources regarding the illegal possession of narcotics by a local resident, Riyaz Ahmad Mir, son of Abdul Khaliq Mir, hailing from Katriteng, Bijbehara.
Acting swiftly, police registered FIR No. 182/2025 under Sections 8/20 of the NDPS Act and launched an investigation. A team from PS Bijbehara, along with the concerned Magistrate, conducted a raid at the suspect’s residence.
During the search operation, officers recovered approximately 25.200 kilograms of cannabis (leaves, seeds, and covers) from the house. The narcotics were seized, and the accused was taken into custody.
Police have launched further investigations to trace the origin of the contraband and identify other individuals possibly linked to the drug trade.
Authorities reaffirmed their commitment to eliminating drug peddling from the region and urged citizens to report any suspicious activities. All informants’ identities will remain strictly confidential.
