Operatives of the Rivers State Police Command have arrested two suspected car snatchers connected to multiple vehicle thefts in Port Harcourt, surrounding areas, and neighboring states.
In a statement signed by SP Grace Iringe-Koko, the command said the arrests followed reports of stolen vehicles, including one traced to Abia State, where one suspect was apprehended.
The suspects, 43-year-old Abubakar Abdulsalam and 35-year-old Shagari Shehu, were arrested on November 20, 2025, at about 6:00 p.m. by the command’s C4I Intelligence Unit in connection with the theft of two vehicles. Both were found in possession of the stolen vehicles, acting on credible intelligence.
Recovered vehicles include a white Toyota Hilux with a fake registration number GWA 453 GR and an ash-coloured Toyota Corolla with a fake registration number LSD 420 BT. Both cars are in police custody for further investigation.
The suspects are currently undergoing detailed questioning to determine their roles in the thefts and possible links to other vehicle-related crimes. The police are also working to identify other members of the syndicate.
Rivers State Police Commissioner CP Olugbenga A. Adepoju praised the operatives’ efforts and thanked the public for their support. The command urged anyone with information about similar crimes to assist in ongoing investigations, reaffirming their commitment to maintaining law and order.
