In a shocking incident in Barpeta district, Assam, a man allegedly killed his wife and daughter with an axe in a gruesome attack.
The victims have been identified as Binita Das, the mother, and Hiya Das, a Class 12 student. The accused, Rishabh Das, is a stationery shop owner in Gandhi Nagar, Barpeta.
The horrific act took place in the Gandhi Nagar area between 4:30–5:00 PM on October 13. Initial reports suggest that the motive behind the attack was a family dispute. Barpeta police have arrested Rishabh Das and are conducting a detailed investigation.
Local residents reported seeing the accused attack his wife and daughter, noting that although the family lived together, he often ate alone and spent most of his time at his shop.
Authorities also highlighted the accused’s violent past: eight years ago, Rishabh Das allegedly attacked his sister, chopping off her fingers with a sickle.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, raising concerns about domestic violence and mental health issues within families. Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the double murder.
