Police in Borigumma arrested three individuals for their alleged involvement in a house burglary in Jeypore, where cash and gold ornaments worth around Rs18 lakh were stolen.

The accused have been identified as Rinku Nayak (30) from Medri Sahi in Jeypore, Chandan Badhei (23) from Stadium Colony in Koraput town, and M Shiba (45), a receiver of stolen property from Chandan Bada Street in Jeypore. The trio was arrested on Friday following an investigation by local police.

According to police officials, the case came to light after Binayak Padhi (79), a resident of Narasingh Nagar under Borigumma police limits, filed a complaint on December 22 last year reporting a burglary at his residence.

Padhi told police that he had travelled to Jeypore with his family on November 20 to attend the death ceremony of his younger son-in-law. Due to health issues, the family remained there for several days.

He said a neighbour later informed him on December 21 that unknown persons had broken into his house. When he returned home, he discovered that the door lock had been broken and valuables were missing.

In his complaint, Padhi stated that the burglars stole around Rs2 lakh in cash along with several gold ornaments, including chains, earrings and rings.

Following the complaint, police registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and began an investigation. During the probe, officers tracked down and arrested the three accused.

Police said the suspects have been produced before a court and further investigation into the case is currently underway.
