Two women involved in an online cyber fraud operation were arrested by the Nagpada Cyber Cell for duping a Mumbai resident by posing as bank executives.

The accused — Rina Nathu Prasad (30) and Kulvender Kaur Joginder Ram (32) — were arrested from Ludhiana, Punjab, on February 5, 2025, after their names surfaced in a cyber fraud complaint filed by a Mumbai man.

According to police, the incident occurred on December 27, 2024, when the victim, Harin Varalia, received a phone call from a person posing as a bank official. The caller convinced him to visit a fraudulent website under the guise of redeeming reward points on his credit card.

Believing the scam, Varalia entered his banking details into the fake website, after which the fraudsters used the information to make a purchase worth Rs33,543.

A case was registered, and the cyber cell team traced the digital footprint to Ludhiana, where the duo was apprehended. They were brought back to Mumbai for further investigation and face charges under the Information Technology Act and IPC sections related to cheating and identity theft.
