In a major crackdown on human trafficking, the Assam Police have dismantled a notorious trafficking network operating in Tinsukia’s Guijan, leading to the arrest of nine individuals, including the suspected kingpin, Rijumoni Tai.

The gang is accused of abducting two minor girls, aged 9 and 13, from Guijan on December 26, while they were returning home from school. According to the police, the girls were trafficked for Rs2 lakh, with two women allegedly forcing them into a car and transporting them to an unknown location.

Thanks to a swift police response, the minors were rescued from Itanagar and Naharlagun in Arunachal Pradesh, and the nine accused, including Rijumoni Tai, were arrested across regions including Duliajan, Jonai, Majuli, Banderdewa, and Tinsukia. Authorities are continuing investigations to identify additional suspects and connections in this organized trafficking ring.

Meanwhile, in a related development, the Government Railway Police (GRP) in Tripura have arrested 35 human traffickers over the last five months for allegedly facilitating the illegal entry of Bangladeshi nationals and Rohingyas into India.

On Sunday night, the GRP, with assistance from the Border Security Force (BSF), arrested five more traffickers from Konaban in the Sepahijala district.

Officials confirmed that all 35 arrested traffickers are Indian nationals, highlighting the expanding network of illegal cross-border trafficking operations in the northeast.

These developments underscore the increasing vigilance and commitment of law enforcement agencies in combating human trafficking, rescuing victims, and dismantling dangerous syndicates across the region.
