A man accused of fatally shooting another man outside a club in Orange County over the weekend has been arrested, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.
Rijkaard Florvil, 33, was taken into custody Sunday and charged with first-degree murder with a firearm. He was later booked into the Orange County Jail.
Deputies responded around 3:30 a.m. to a business in the 700 block of North Apopka Vineland Road after receiving a report of an aggravated battery.
When officers arrived, they found Kendy Alexandre, 29, suffering from a gunshot wound. Alexandre was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later died from his injuries, according to investigators.
Witnesses told deputies that the suspect fled the scene in a lifted green Jeep. Authorities later located the vehicle traveling north of North Apopka Vineland Road.
Deputies conducted a traffic stop and identified the driver as Florvil. Two witnesses from the scene later identified him as the shooter. According to investigators, one witness told deputies they saw Florvil shoot the victim in the head.
During questioning, Florvil told investigators he had been at the club when a fight broke out in the parking lot. He claimed he fired two shots into the air before leaving the scene.
However, deputies said surveillance video from the area appears to contradict that account. According to the arrest affidavit, the footage shows Florvil approaching a group involved in the fight. A flash is then visible in the video before the victim falls to the ground.
Investigators said the video shows Florvil walking back to his Jeep immediately afterward.
Even after being shown the surveillance footage, Florvil reportedly maintained that he had only fired two shots into the air.
Authorities say the investigation into the deadly shooting remains ongoing.
