BOERNE, Texas – A father and son duo, both working as auto dealers, have been arrested in Boerne for their alleged roles in a vehicle fraud scheme valued at more than $300,000, authorities said.

According to the Boerne Police Department, Richard Dean Hovey Sr. and Richard Dean Hovey Jr. were taken into custody on Wednesday and booked into the Kendall County Jail.

The two men are accused of stealing money from vehicle owners who had entrusted them with vehicles under the belief they were being handled appropriately. Instead, police say, Hovey Sr. and Jr. misappropriated funds without permission, leaving multiple victims out significant sums of money.

Over the span of several months, several victims filed reports that helped build the case against the Hoveys. The charges now include:

Theft of property over $300,000, a first-degree felony

Misapplication of fiduciary property or property of a financial institution valued between $30,000 and $150,000, a third-degree felony

The investigation is ongoing, and police are encouraging other potential victims to come forward.
