Richard Ennis, a “prolific” fraudster and burglar from Winsford, has been sentenced to a year in prison after a string of criminal activities, including breaking into a cocktail bar and stealing a woman’s bank card.
On January 9, Ennis stole the card of a woman from Winsford and used it twice to withdraw a total of £100. Just days later, on January 11 and 12, he broke into a bar in Northwich, believed to be the Bird and Hat, a rum and cocktail venue in the Bullring. During this burglary, he stole alcohol worth £977 and caused significant damage, leading to a loss of business for the bar.
After a quick investigation by Northwich Proactive CID, Ennis was arrested and charged with multiple offenses. He appeared at Warrington Magistrates’ Court on January 14, where he pleaded guilty to two counts of burglary, one count of theft, and two counts of fraud by making false representations.
Ennis was sentenced to 12 months in prison and ordered to pay £187 in compensation. Two additional charges related to attempted burglary and burglary were withdrawn after his guilty pleas.
Ennis was previously sentenced to a year in prison in June 2023 for a series of burglaries, including a restaurant, a garage, and several local businesses. Police Constable Dan Lee commented on the case, emphasizing Ennis’s status as a prolific offender and the impact of his crimes on local businesses.
The swift conclusion of his crime spree has provided some reassurance to the Northwich community and local business owners.
