Richard Dannenberger Faces New Charges in Ohio Case

Indictment updated for wife, dog assaults, not death

by Sophia Bennett

TOLEDO, Ohio — A Wood County man already facing murder charges in the death of his father has been indicted on additional counts for allegedly attacking his wife and a dog on the same night.

Richard Dannenberger, 36, was originally indicted in October for the murder of his father, Raymond Dannenberger, 66. Prosecutors say Richard also strangled his wife and fatally stabbed a dog during the incident. Authorities have clarified that his wife survived, and the indictment will be amended to reflect this.

The updated indictment includes:

Aggravated murder and murder for the death of Raymond Dannenberger

Two counts of strangulation and felonious assault for attacks on his wife

Cruelty to companion animals for causing serious physical harm to the dog

Richard allegedly used a knife in the assault on his wife. He previously pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity to the murder charges on Dec. 8.

Raymond Dannenberger was found dead outside a residence on Devil’s Hole Road in Troy Township on Sept. 30. Richard was arrested at a nearby location shortly after.
