BROWNSVILLE, Texas (ValleyCentral) — An 18-year-old man, identified as Ricardo Patrick Emery, has been arrested in connection with a burglary at Sunrise Mall, according to the Brownsville Police Department.

On Monday, officers with the McAllen Police Department attempted to approach a man seen with a vehicle reported stolen from Brownsville. The suspect fled on foot, prompting a brief pursuit.

Following his apprehension, police discovered multiple stolen jewelry items in his possession. The property was later confirmed to have been taken from multiple jewelry stores inside Sunrise Mall, authorities said.

Investigators from Brownsville PD were able to identify Emery as the suspect who forcibly entered the mall during the burglary.

Emery has since been arraigned in Hidalgo County on charges filed by McAllen PD, as well as one count of burglary of a building, a state jail felony in Texas, for the incident in Brownsville.

He remains in custody as additional charges are pending.
