A Washington, D.C. man is being held without bond after being charged with the murder of his mother. Ricardo Botts, 36, was arrested by the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force and charged with second-degree murder while armed in connection with the killing of Pamela Botts.
According to court documents, the incident began early Sunday morning when a 911 call was received by the Office of Unified Communications (OUC) at 3:53 a.m. The first call included background audio of a man and a woman speaking, though neither spoke directly to the dispatcher. One minute later, a second call came in from another woman inside the home, reporting that Ricardo Botts had assaulted his mother.
The woman told police she began screaming for help after witnessing Ricardo Botts standing over his mother in the living room. Police say Pamela Botts had been stabbed multiple times in the head and face. When officers arrived at the scene, Ricardo Botts fled through the back door of the house.
Pamela Botts was transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition. Despite efforts to save her life, she died within 36 hours of the attack.
The second woman in the home told investigators the violent incident stemmed from an argument, though further details about the dispute have not been disclosed.
Ricardo Botts was located the following day in Chantilly, Virginia. He was taken into custody without incident and formally charged with second-degree murder.
