RENO, Nev. (KOLO) – A 42-year-old repeat felony offender was arrested Tuesday following a vehicle burglary and credit card theft near the district courthouse in downtown Reno.
Karrell Morgan was booked into the Washoe County Detention Facility and faces several charges, including:
Vehicle burglary
Swindling
Possession of a credit/debit card without cardholder consent
Grand larceny ($1,200 to $5,000)
Four counts of unauthorized use of a credit/debit card or ID
The incident occurred on Monday, June 2, when a vehicle parked near the district courthouse was stolen. The victim also reported the theft of credit and debit cards.
Washoe County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) bailiffs reviewed nearby surveillance footage, which captured the suspect. Morgan, who has a history of violent felony offenses, was quickly identified.
WCSO detectives and the H.E.R.O. team (High Enforcement Response Operations) joined the investigation. The stolen vehicle was located near Circus Circus in Reno, and Morgan was found in the vicinity shortly afterward.
Authorities say he was taken into custody without incident.
“The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office commends the coordinated efforts of the district court bailiffs, detectives, and H.E.R.O. team for their work in quickly identifying and apprehending a repeat offender and helping keep our community safe,” the department said in a statement.
