In a swift breakthrough, the MHB Colony Police have arrested Renuka Manohar Nadar (28) for allegedly stealing a 20-gram gold mangalsutra from an open house in Dahisar West, Mumbai.
The incident occurred on October 5, 2025, around 6:00 PM, when the victim, Jayabai Ram Satpute (60), a homemaker residing at Ekta Welfare Society, reported that an unknown woman entered her home under the pretext of asking for water. While the victim was inside fetching it, the accused allegedly stole the gold mangalsutra kept on the sofa and fled the scene.
Following the complaint, police reviewed CCTV footage and collected local intelligence, which led them to identify Renuka Nadar, a resident of Hanuman Tekdi, Makdala Compound, in the same locality.
Despite an initial search, Renuka remained absconding, with her phone switched off and her family unaware of her whereabouts. A confidential tip-off eventually revealed she was attending a friend’s birthday party at a resort in Gorai village.
Acting quickly, a team led by PSI Nilesh Patil searched over 8 to 10 resorts in the area. At Whispering Palms Resort, police found a group of people partying. Upon checking the rooms, they discovered Renuka hiding inside. She was taken into custody with the help of women police officers.
During interrogation, Renuka confessed to the theft, and the stolen gold mangalsutra was recovered.
Police further revealed that Renuka has a criminal record, including a prior arrest under the PITA Act for allegedly running a prostitution racket involving women and minors. She had spent over two years in jail and was out on bail before the Covid pandemic.
Renuka has now been formally arrested and remanded to police custody by the court.
