A dramatic standoff in Hobe Sound, Florida, led to the arrest of 49-year-old Reginald Bernard Daniels after he robbed Seacoast Bank with a large dagger-style knife. The Martin County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) released bodycam footage showing the tense moments following the robbery, which occurred around 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday.
Daniels, who demanded money from a loan officer and then from a teller, fled the scene after spotting a patrol car in the bank’s parking lot. He ran into the woods behind a nearby Winn-Dixie plaza, but deputies soon located him at a rooming house, not far from the crime scene.
The situation escalated as Daniels barricaded himself inside his room and refused to surrender, even telling deputies he wanted them to kill him. The standoff led to the deployment of CS gas, tasers, and non-lethal impact rounds, but Daniels remained resistant, urging deputies to approach him.
Despite a rifle with lethal rounds available, Sheriff John Budensiek said non-lethal force was used to ensure Daniels’ survival. He was eventually taken into custody and treated for gas exposure and a broken wrist. Daniels now faces charges of armed robbery and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. The MCSO continues to investigate.
