COVINGTON, Tenn. (WMC) – Covington Police Chief Donna Turner is speaking out on the dangers of domestic violence after a Memphis man, Reginald Ballard, 32, was arrested Tuesday for stalking and threatening a local resident.
“Domestic violence calls are some of the most dangerous and volatile incidents law enforcement encounters. Our goal is to protect those who are victims of domestic violence,” Chief Turner emphasized.
According to police, Ballard showed up at a home on Loon Lane late Tuesday morning waving a gun and demanding the victim leave with him. He fled before officers arrived, prompting an alert broadcast to nearby agencies.
Tipton County Sheriff’s deputies soon located Ballard driving along Highway 70 and pulled him over. Inside his vehicle, officers found a loaded revolver and a prescription bottle of amphetamine pills not belonging to him.
During questioning, Ballard reportedly admitted to the assault. He now faces multiple charges, including:
Aggravated assault
Stalking
Possession of a Schedule II narcotic
Felon in possession of a handgun
Ballard is being held at the Tipton County Jail on a $250,000 bond. His court appearance is scheduled for Thursday morning.
While Shelby County records show no prior convictions, Action News 5 is awaiting further details on his criminal history.
