Rebekah Everhart Arrested After Stolen Jeep Stop

Grappler used to halt stolen Jacksonville vehicle

HOLLYWOOD, Fla. — Rebekah Everhart, 44, and Michael Kennedy, 45, were arrested after police used a grappler device to stop a stolen Jeep Wrangler that had been reported missing from Jacksonville.

According to the Hollywood Police Department, an officer spotted the white Jeep on February 10 and confirmed it matched the description of the stolen vehicle. Authorities anticipated the vehicle might flee if a traditional traffic stop was attempted, so an officer deployed a grappler from his patrol cruiser to disable it.

Dash camera footage showed the grappler attaching to the Jeep and bringing it to a stop. Body camera video captured officers approaching the stalled vehicle with weapons drawn.

Kennedy was identified as the driver and was charged with driving without a license. Everhart, the passenger, was charged with grand theft. A third passenger was detained at the scene, though it remains unclear whether that individual was arrested.

According to the arrest report, Everhart told officers she had borrowed the Jeep from a family friend in Jacksonville and later picked up Kennedy after arriving in Hollywood. Kennedy declined to speak with investigators.

Both suspects were transported to the Broward Sheriff’s Office Main Jail.
