In a major real estate fraud case, Mumbai police have arrested three individuals involved in a scam where they duped victims by offering fake property deals. The arrested suspects include two agents—Suresh Kale alias Suraj Dubey and Dheeraj Yadav—and a lawyer, Satyam Dubey. The mastermind behind the operation, Rajesh Marge, remains on the run.
The fraud came to light when a 54-year-old businessman, searching for a bigger home, fell victim to the scam. The agents promised him a flat in the Omkar Altamonte Tower in Malad East at an attractive price of Rs 60 lakh. The businessman, after inspecting the flat and verifying the details, made several payments totaling nearly Rs 58 lakh. However, when he tried to take possession, the suspects cut off contact. On checking the documents with a lawyer, he found them to be fake.
The complainant approached Kurar police, who, under the guidance of DCP Smita Patil, launched an investigation and arrested the agents in December 2024. A search of the arrested lawyer’s laptop revealed fake documents for various flats, including those related to the complainant.
The accused had previously used the same method to cheat another woman, a bank employee, by promising her a flat in Goregaon and taking Rs 20 lakh. Additional cases from Virar and Vasai have also surfaced, with the gang’s fraudulent activities affecting multiple victims.
