MT. VERNON, Ind. — A Mt. Vernon man is facing dozens of charges after police linked him to a series of vehicle break-ins across Posey County.
Rayvon Malik Robbins, 26, was initially taken into custody last week on an unrelated drug possession charge. During the investigation, officers identified Robbins as a person of interest in multiple January thefts involving unlocked vehicles.
Authorities say cash and several firearms were among the items stolen. Following his arrest, investigators reviewed cellular data from Robbins’ phone, which allegedly placed him in the area at the time of the thefts. Police also reported that Robbins was found with a wallet previously reported stolen from a vehicle.
A search of his residence reportedly uncovered clothing matching that worn by the suspect in surveillance footage.
Robbins now faces 28 criminal counts, including multiple charges of theft of a firearm, theft, and unauthorized entry of a motor vehicle. Prosecutors say if convicted on all charges, he could face more than 12 years in prison and fines up to $10,000.
Mt. Vernon Police Chief Justin Rutledge praised officers and detectives for their work on the case and reminded residents to lock their vehicles to help prevent similar incidents.
Robbins is scheduled to appear in court Wednesday.
