DESOTO COUNTY, Fla. — Raymond Haynes Jr., 52, was arrested after allegedly stealing seven cases of beer from a Walmart and facing multiple other charges.
After a report of theft, the DeSoto County Sheriff’s Office issued a Be-On-The-Lookout for Haynes. A sheriff’s captain spotted Haynes and attempted to stop his vehicle. Haynes fled, dangerously speeding through intersections and ignoring stop signs, nearly causing several accidents. Deputies eventually boxed in his car, forcing him to stop.
Haynes refused to exit the vehicle and had to be forcibly removed. He is accused not only of stealing the beer but also selling it for cash. Additionally, he was driving with a suspended license and failed to register as a career offender after living in DeSoto County for four months, a violation of Florida law.
A career offender is defined as someone convicted of repeated violent felonies or who has been previously released from prison and reoffended. Haynes, originally from Miami, is a convicted felon with a criminal history that includes theft, burglary, and weapons offenses in multiple Florida counties.
He was arrested and charged with fleeing police, dealing in stolen property, failure to register as a career offender, retail theft with prior convictions, resisting arrest, and driving with a suspended license.
