Raymond Godby Faces Fraud Charges as Freemasons Lodge Treasurer

Accused of Misusing Position for Personal Gain

by Amelia Crawford

A man has been charged with “fraud by abuse of position” while serving as treasurer for a Freemasons lodge. Raymond Godby, 73, of Station Road, Abbots Ripton, appeared at Cambridge Crown Court on September 6, facing one count of fraud by abuse of position and two counts of fraud by false representation.

The alleged offenses occurred between July 1, 2018, and September 5, 2022, during his tenure at the Stuart Lodge of the Freemasons, which is based in London. Godby is accused of having “dishonestly abused” his role as treasurer to benefit personally from the lodge’s funds, contrary to Sections 1 and 4 of the Fraud Act 2006.

Godby has pleaded not guilty to the charges. A pretrial review is scheduled for April 28, 2025, with a fixed floater trial set for May 12. He has been remanded on unconditional bail until his next court appearance.
