A 24-year-old man, Rayjaun Calloway, is now in custody following a multi-agency manhunt that crossed jurisdictions and triggered an emergency shelter-in-place order in Prince Edward County, Virginia.

Authorities report that Calloway was arrested Sunday afternoon after allegedly killing his father in Roanoke and later firing multiple shots at a police officer during a confrontation in Farmville.

The events began Saturday just before 5 p.m., when Roanoke Police responded to a shooting in the 900 block of 7th Street NW. Upon arrival, officers found 55-year-old Israel Calloway, Rayjaun’s father, deceased from apparent gunshot wounds.

Early Sunday, a Farmville Police officer spotted Rayjaun Calloway near Route 460 and Hixburg Road. According to officials, Calloway opened fire on the officer before fleeing on foot. This prompted Prince Edward County officials to issue a shelter-in-place order for residents within a five-mile radius.

Virginia State Police and other local and regional law enforcement agencies coordinated a search effort. Around 12:45 p.m., Calloway was located and arrested without further incident near Sulphur Spring Road on Route 460. Traffic on westbound Route 460 was temporarily halted during the operation but has since returned to normal.

No injuries were reported among officers or civilians during the search and arrest.

Rayjaun Calloway is expected to face multiple charges related to the homicide and assault on law enforcement. The investigation remains ongoing.
