Rayees Ahmad Hajam Arrested With Heroin in Awantipora

Police nab drug suspect during naka checking in Khrew

Awantipora, Jammu and Kashmir – In a continuing crackdown against drug abuse, Jammu and Kashmir Police in Awantipora arrested a suspected drug peddler on Thursday during a naka checking operation in the Babapora Khrew area.

The suspect, identified as Rayees Ahmad Hajam, son of Ghulam Mohammad Hajam, hails from Sharshali Khrew.

According to police, a team led by SHO Khrew, Inspector Naieem Rashid, noticed Rayees behaving suspiciously. When asked to stop, the suspect attempted to flee but was tactfully apprehended by the police personnel.

Upon searching him, the team recovered approximately one gram of a heroin-like substance from his possession.

An FIR numbered 67/2025 has been registered at Police Station Khrew under relevant sections of the NDPS Act, and a thorough investigation has been launched to determine the source and potential network involved.

Police reiterated their commitment to curbing the drug menace and urged the public to report any suspicious activities.
