LAREDO, Texas – A man was arrested after allegedly strangling a woman and assaulting a relative who tried to intervene, Laredo police said.
Officers were dispatched to a home on the 1000 block of Comanche Lane at 4:51 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 14, following multiple 911 calls reporting loud screaming and a man allegedly strangling a female.
Upon arrival, the suspect fled through the backyard, jumping several fences. Officers located him near the 3900 block of Sitting Bull Street and detained 33-year-old Raul Garza.
According to statements, Garza and the female victim had been involved in an argument. He allegedly grabbed the victim, restricting her breathing, and threatened her with a blunt object. A male relative who tried to intervene was also assaulted and lost consciousness.
Garza was arrested and charged with aggravated assault causing family violence, two counts of assault causing family violence and impeding breath, and evading arrest.
