KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Two Kansas City men have been sentenced in federal court for their roles in a bank robbery.
Rathell Quavon Ross, 28, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Beth Phillips to 6 years and 5 months in prison. His co-defendant, Gerrad D. Rivera-Willis, was sentenced on April 22 to 6 years for the same crime.
Court documents state that the two men parked near a Kansas City bank, entered, and threatened employees while demanding money. They fled with $2,033 in the same car they arrived in, which was linked to a previous bank robbery.
When law enforcement located the vehicle, both suspects fled on foot. Ross was found hiding under a tarp nearby, while Rivera-Willis was tracked and apprehended with the help of a K-9 unit. Authorities recovered the stolen cash hidden under a cinder block near Rivera-Willis’ arrest location.
Rivera-Willis admitted involvement in the prior robbery and was ordered to pay $8,542 in restitution.
The FBI and Kansas City Police Department led the investigation.
