AKRON, Ohio — A 43-year-old Akron man has been arrested and charged with murder in connection to the death of his 39-year-old partner, authorities confirmed.

According to Lt. Michael Murphy of the Akron Police Department, officers responded around 1 a.m. on Aug. 31 to a report of a sudden death on the 600 block of Talbot Avenue. The woman, whose identity has not been released, was transported to Summa Health Akron, where she was pronounced dead.

Investigators later determined the victim had died from blunt force trauma and was likely assaulted at a residence on West Dalton Street, approximately six miles from where she was found.

The woman’s significant other, Rasheed D. Lagway, was identified as a person of interest during the investigation. A warrant was issued for his arrest, and he was taken into custody by the Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force on the morning of Sept. 4.

Lagway now faces charges of:

Murder

Felonious Assault

Domestic Violence

Authorities have not released further details, and the investigation is ongoing.
