Punjab Police seize 9 kg heroin in major raid

by Ananya Mehta

The Counter Intelligence (CI) wing of the Punjab Police arrested Ranjit Singh, alias Rana, in India and recovered 9 kg of heroin during a targeted operation on Monday.

Singh, a resident of Gillan Wali village in Dujowal under Ramdas police jurisdiction, was intercepted along the Amritsar-Ramdas road near Anaitpura village while attempting to deliver a heroin consignment. His motorcycle (PB14D0554), reportedly used to transport narcotics, was also seized.

Police said the arrest followed intelligence inputs linking Singh to a Pakistan-based smuggler named Jutt. Investigations revealed that heroin shipments were smuggled into India using drones, dropped near the fenced border areas of Ghonewala village, and then collected by Singh for distribution across Punjab.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Balbir Singh, Counter Intelligence, stated that Singh will be produced in court and placed on police remand for further questioning. Authorities are probing the full extent of his involvement in the narcotics trade.

A case under various provisions of the NDPS Act has been registered at the State Special Operation Cell (SSOC) police station. Investigators are working to trace the broader network, including Pakistan-based handlers and local collaborators, with additional arrests expected as the investigation continues.
