A Wolverhampton support worker who stole over £2,000 from five vulnerable mental health patients has been sentenced to one year in prison, with a judge condemning her actions as “despicable.”
Ranjinder Deol, 46, committed the thefts while working at Park View Self Contained Apartments on Barnard Road, a flagship care facility run by Voyage Care. The home supports individuals with learning disabilities and complex care needs.
Between 2022 and 2023, Deol exploited her position as a primary carer, taking patients on day trips, assisting them in withdrawing their own money, and then making unauthorised withdrawals for herself.
Rather than confess when confronted by management, Deol attempted to shift blame onto fellow staff members, denying her involvement in the thefts.
All five victims were residents under her direct care, relying on her for daily support and financial assistance. The case has deeply impacted trust within the care environment.
A spokesperson for Voyage Care confirmed that internal policies have since been reviewed, and the company remains committed to safeguarding residents.
Deol was sentenced to 12 months in custody for betraying the trust placed in her by some of society’s most vulnerable individuals.
